Blue Hill
Blue Hill Meadow Sage (Salvia nemorosa ‘Blauhügel’) is a beautiful compact perennial prized for its soft violet-blue flower spikes, aromatic green foliage, and long blooming season. Its upright flowers create an elegant display above a dense mound of foliage, adding color and vertical texture to perennial borders, mixed landscape beds, and pollinator gardens.
Beginning in late spring to early summer, Blue Hill produces an abundance of soft blue flowers that attract bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators. With proper deadheading, additional blooms may appear throughout summer, extending its seasonal interest. Its naturally compact habit makes it particularly useful for edging, smaller gardens, mass plantings, and foundation borders.
Blue Hill is especially attractive in cottage gardens, traditional landscapes, and formal estate-style designs. Its cool blue flowers pair beautifully with white, pink, and yellow flowering perennials, while its upright flower spikes provide contrast against rounded evergreen shrubs and broad-leaved plants.

Care & Maintenance Tips
Planting:
Plant in full sun in well-drained soil. Blue Hill performs best with at least six hours of direct sunlight daily. Avoid poorly drained or consistently wet locations, especially during winter, as excess moisture can damage the root system.
Watering:
Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a strong root system. Once established, Blue Hill has good drought tolerance and generally requires supplemental watering only during extended periods of hot, dry weather.
Fertilizing:
Blue Hill generally requires little fertilizer. Apply a light application of balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring if needed. Avoid excessive fertilization, which can encourage foliage growth at the expense of flowering.
Pruning:
Remove spent flower spikes after the initial bloom to encourage additional flowering. Cutting the plant back by approximately one-third after the first major flush can promote fresh growth and repeat blooms. Remove dead stems and foliage in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.
Winter Care:
Ensure excellent drainage throughout winter. In colder climates, leave some old growth standing until early spring to help protect the crown from harsh winter conditions.
