Guava Lava

Guava Lava Agastache is a colorful, long-blooming perennial prized for its vibrant coral-pink flowers, fragrant foliage, and exceptional pollinator value. Its upright flower spikes rise above aromatic green foliage, providing bold summer color and constant activity from bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Beginning in summer and continuing into fall, masses of warm guava-pink to coral flowers cover the upright stems. The tubular flowers are especially attractive to hummingbirds, while bees and butterflies regularly visit the blooms throughout the flowering season. Guava Lava is an excellent choice for perennial borders, pollinator gardens, cottage gardens, mass plantings, containers, or as a colorful accent. Once established, it handles heat and drought exceptionally well and performs best in sunny locations with excellent drainage. Guava Lava performs best in well-drained soil and is an excellent choice for hot, sunny locations. Excellent drainage is particularly important during winter, as Agastache does not perform well in consistently wet soil. Watering: Water consistently during the first growing season to establish a strong root system. Once established, Guava Lava is drought tolerant and generally requires supplemental watering only during prolonged periods of hot, dry weather. Avoid overwatering and consistently saturated soil. Fertilizing: Very little fertilizer is required. If needed, apply a light application of balanced slow-release fertilizer in spring. Avoid excessive fertilization, which can encourage excessive foliage growth and weaker stems. Pruning: Remove spent flower spikes if a tidier appearance is desired and to encourage continued flowering. Leave some stems standing through fall if wildlife value is desired. Cut old growth back in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.
