Yoshino
Yoshino Cryptomeria (Cryptomeria japonica 'Yoshino') is a fast-growing evergreen tree prized for its soft, feathery foliage, dense pyramidal habit, and excellent year-round screening. Growing approximately 30-40 feet tall and 15-20 feet wide at maturity, it develops a full, upright form with rich green foliage that creates an attractive alternative to traditional arborvitae and other privacy evergreens.
The soft, fine-textured foliage remains attractive throughout the year and may develop subtle bronze tones during colder winter weather before returning to green in spring. Yoshino grows relatively quickly when young, making it an excellent choice for privacy screens, property lines, windbreaks, or as a large evergreen specimen.
Unlike many needled evergreens, Cryptomeria has soft foliage that provides a lush appearance without the coarse or sharply pointed texture of some conifers. Its naturally dense, pyramidal form generally requires very little pruning.

Care & Maintenance Tips
Planting:Plant in full sun to part sun. Yoshino develops its densest growth and strongest form with plenty of sunlight but can tolerate some light shade. It prefers fertile, slightly acidic, well-drained soil and appreciates consistent moisture, particularly while becoming established.
Watering:Water consistently during the first growing season to establish a deep, healthy root system. Once established, Yoshino prefers average moisture and should be watered during extended periods of hot, dry weather. Avoid both prolonged drought and consistently waterlogged soil.
Fertilizing:Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer formulated for trees and evergreens in early spring if needed. Adding organic matter around the root zone can also help improve soil conditions and maintain healthy growth.
Pruning:Very little pruning is generally required. Yoshino naturally develops an attractive pyramidal form. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches as needed. Light shaping can be performed in late winter or early spring if a more formal appearance is desired.
